About the position
Chevron ENGINE has an exciting opportunity for a Cost Controller to join Wells team and will be based in Chevron’s office in Bengaluru.
Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.
Key responsibilities
The Cost Controller will play a key role in establishing and maintaining a robust cost management framework for the organization. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting to drive financial discipline and support informed decision-making across all projects. The position works collaboratively with Project Managers, Finance, Engineering, and Procurement teams to ensure transparency and control over project and operational costs.
Cost Book Development & Maintenance
Design, implement, and maintain a standardized cost book as the organization’s single source of truth for cost data.
Regularly update and validate cost information to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company standards.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to review and validate cost inputs, assumptions, and methodologies.
Cost Control & Analysis
Develop and implement cost control processes, reporting frameworks, and performance tracking tools.
Prepare, monitor, and manage project budgets in alignment with approved estimates and schedules.
Track and analyse cost performance, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions.
Ensure proper classification of Capital (CapEx) and Operating (OpEx) expenditures in accordance with corporate guidelines.
Reporting & Insights
Produce accurate and timely cost reports, forecasts, and variance analyses.
Present insights and recommendations to Project Managers and leadership to enable proactive decision-making.
Support management reviews, phase-gate assessments, and governance meetings with relevant cost data and analytics.
Financial Administration
Review and validate project invoices for accuracy, compliance, and appropriate coding.
Set up and maintain charge codes and cost structures in SAP or equivalent ERP systems.
Align cost reporting with enterprise financial and project management systems (e.g., PPM tools).
About you

To be considered for this role, applicants should have:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related field.
10 years of experience in cost control, financial analysis, or project controls (oil & gas or capital project experience preferred).
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and the Microsoft Office Suite; experience with SAP or similar ERP systems is highly desirable.
Strong understanding of cost estimation, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies (MS Project experience is an advantage).
Excellent communication, organization, and critical thinking skills.

Exhibit strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret complex cost data and identify financial risks.
Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in all reporting activities.
