About the position:
Chevron ENGINE is seeking highly qualified candidates to join our Earth Science group. The successful candidate will provide Structural Geology support for a variety of asset classes to support Earth Scientists and Technical Specialists both in ENGINE and internationally. There will be the potential to assist with technology development.
This is an early to mid-career position in the Chevron ENGINE Earth Science group for a knowledgeable Structural Geologist with an established work history, delivering high-quality structural characterization products that are utilized to evaluate the quality of trapping and sealing mechanisms for hydrocarbon reservoirs and provide critical insights for drilling operations and field management optimization efforts.
The role will directly support Chevron’s assets through complex reservoir management and exploration challenges while ensuring robust structural characterizations products. The candidate will support the development and optimization of structural interpretations and structural modeling workflows and provide direct inputs to Basin and Reservoir Modeling workflows. The candidate will communicate effectively with assets, services and research and development (R&D) teams to achieve technical objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
The position will be responsible for executing established structural interpretation and modeling workflows to evaluate structure, trap geometry and seal capacity of subsurface hydrocarbon reservoirs.
Closely collaborate with subject matter experts in Chevron Technical Center (CTC) in Houston, and colleagues co-located within ENGINE on topics related to structural geology.
Conduct detailed mapping of regional and local structural fault framework (2D and 3D) using seismic and well data to evaluate regional structural trends and delineate local trap geometry and evolution.
Generation of structural cross-sections, structural maps, and kinematic models to develop structural scenarios as input to reservoir and basin models.
Perform quality control on existing structural frameworks and examine the impact of structural uncertainty and fault framework linkage on trap geometry and compartmentalization.
Conduct fault and top seal evaluation to assess seal integrity and seal capacity through integration of seismic data, well logs and pressure data.
Perform reservoir connectivity analysis through evaluation of fault juxtaposition analysis and fault-rock property modeling.
Analyze structural features such as faults, folds, and fractures from wellbore image log interpretation, to assess their impact on reservoir quality and fluid flow in support of field development optimization.
Required Qualifications:
Possession of a M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in Geology or Earth Science in one of the following disciplines: structural geology or basin analysis.
Required experience with Petrel (or equivalent modeling applications); familiarity with seismic interpretation and fault mapping, familiarity with advanced data analysis tools is beneficial.
Proven experience in fault framework analysis, generation of structural cross-sections and structural maps.
Prior relevant experience working with subsurface data and integrating multi-disciplinary datasets.
Experience in customer support, with an understanding of subsurface business needs, and the ability to collaborate effectively across different time zones.
Preferred Qualifications:
Basic knowledge of Geomechanics with focus on Stress and Strain analysis, Rock Mechanics, and Fluid Flow.
Relevant prior experience in collaborating with other disciplines, in particular basin modeling, reservoir modeling, or reservoir engineering.
Relevant prior experience in at least one aspect of integrated reservoir characterization workflows (i.e., stratigraphy, reservoir quality, biostratigraphy, basin analysis).
Relevant experience with integrating Petrophysical datasets, with prior experience of Petrophysical platforms (Techlog) being advantageous but not required.
Prior experience with image log interpretation and post-interpretation analysis is advantageous but not required.
