Chevron is accepting online applications for the position Aveva PI Application Engineerthrough July 21st, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Time).
The Aveva PI Application Engineer will specialize in supporting and maintaining the AVEVA PI System and Microsoft SQL Server systems at the El Segundo Refinery. This includes the PI Data Archive (Historian), PI Asset Framework (AF), and PI Vision. The role also involves supporting and maintaining additional Operational Technology (OT) applications on the Process Control Network (PCN).
This position requires adherence to a hybrid work schedule.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
PI System Support
- Provide daily production support for PI Data Archive, PI AF, and PI Vision.
- Install, configure, and monitor PI system servers and data interfaces.
- Assist end users with PI tools (e.g., PI System Explorer, PI Vision, PI DataLink).
- Create, monitor, and maintain PI system tags.
SQL Server Administration
- Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases.
- Optimize and troubleshoot SQL queries and performance issues.
- Manage backup and recovery procedures.
- Enforce database security and manage user access.
- Support development teams and resolve database-related issues.
Infrastructure & Compliance
- Assist with monthly server patching and risk/compliance tasks.
- Provide technical expertise for problem identification and resolution.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive measures.
- Maintain technical documentation and support procedures.
- Collaborate with vendors and IT teams to resolve issues.
- Participate in project teams for new functionality and corporate initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to change management processes.
- Provide end-user support and participate in 24x7 on-call rotation.
Required Qualifications
Experience with:
- Supporting and troubleshooting AVEVA PI systems (Data Archive, AF, Vision).
- Interfacing PI systems with DCS systems (e.g., Experion, Honeywell, RSLinx) or OPC technologies.
- Microsoft SQL Server administration and optimization.
- Supporting OT infrastructure in PCN/DMZ environments; understanding of the Purdue Model.
- Troubleshooting Microsoft Windows Servers in both virtual and physical environments.
- Participating in platform deployment or lifecycle projects.
- Applying strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Communicating effectively (oral and written).
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher in technology or a related discipline.
- Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies / SAFe framework.
- Experience using Microsoft Azure DevOps (ADO).

The anticipated annualsalary range for this position is $116,800 - $200,400.The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.
