Position Summary Overview:

Chevron’s Supply & Trading (S&T) business buys, sells and supplies crude oil, refined products, natural gas and gas liquids to support Chevron’s crude and gas production operations and its global refining and marketing network.

The Head of Risk Transformation is responsible for building a modern, commercially relevant and independent Risk Management capability for S&T, while leading the risk systems, data and analytics that underpin it. This position is part of the Credit & Risk Control (C&RC) organization, reports to the Risk Control Officer under Treasury, and is co-located with Supply & Trading in Houston. C&RC partners closely with S&T across its major trading hubs in Houston, Singapore and London.

This role will help shape the long-term risk strategy for a growing and increasingly complex global trading business, strengthening risk oversight, analytics and reporting capabilities in support of Chevron’s commercial objectives.

Key Considerations:

  • Position is located in Houston, Texas.
  • Work schedule: full-time with alternative work schedules (e.g. 9/80 compressed workweek with alternate Mondays or Fridays off). Hybrid work schedule is available with 4 days in office (Mo-Th), 1 day remote (Fr).
  • Interest in owning and delivering a large-scale risk transformation, with real accountability for outcomes, while preserving the independence of the Risk function
  • Interest in acting as a leader in developing and coaching a high-performing risk analytics, systems and market risk team, and in strengthening the next generation of risk leaders

Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and maintain an integrated view of market, credit, liquidity, operational and counterparty risk across the S&T portfolio, including risk appetite, limits, escalation thresholds and fit-for-purpose risk measurement methodologies.
  • Act as a trusted commercial partner to the trading organization, bringing a risk perspective into material transactions, new business approvals, hedging strategies and portfolio decisions, while preserving independent challenge.
  • Lead risk systems, analytics and reporting capabilities that support market risk, credit risk and trading compliance across a global, dynamic trading environment.
  • Strengthen risk governance and controls, with clear accountability for risk reporting, data quality, model ownership, limit setting and escalation.
  • Lead a high-performing risk organization, assessing capability needs, hiring, and establishing development paths and succession plans across market risk, credit, analytics and regional coverage.
  • Serve as an active member of the global S&T Credit & Risk Control leadership team, communicating risk clearly to senior stakeholders.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or related field; advanced degrees a plus.
  • 15+ years of experience in energy or commodity trading risk, including meaningful leadership experience, within an integrated major, merchant trader, leading utility, bank commodities platform or similarly complex trading organization.
  • Direct exposure to physical and financial commodity portfolios, ideally across crude, refined products, natural gas, LNG, power, freight or related markets.
  • Proven track record of building or materially transforming a market risk or enterprise trading risk function – including designing a target operating model, implementing governance and limits, and delivering change while managing daily risk.
  • Demonstrated leadership of CTRM/ETRM systems, risk engine, data, reporting or major digital risk transformations through to implementation.
  • Strong understanding of commodity risk management, including derivatives, physical markets, trading lifecycle and risk metrics (e.g., VaR, P&L, exposure, stress testing); ability to challenge models and assumptions, interpret Monte Carlo outputs and stress scenarios, and translate analytics into decisions.
  • Commercial credibility, with an understanding of how traders create value and can distinguish intentional risk-taking from uncontrolled exposure.
  • Experience recruiting, developing and retaining scarce technical risk talent, and leading globally distributed teams across multiple locations.
  • Independent executive presence, with the ability to synthesize and communicate complex risk concepts and recommendations in a clear, logical manner to traders and senior management.
  • Strong change management skills; decisive amid imperfect information, calm under market or operational stress, and comfortable operating in ambiguity.
  • Inclusive, enterprise-minded and collaborative work behaviors, and cultural adaptability across Houston, London and Singapore.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a STEM, finance or related field.
  • Financial Risk Management (FRM) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification a plus.
  • Advanced skills in risk quantitative analytics and modeling.
  • Proficiency with data analysis, programming and visualization/workflow tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, Python, Power BI, Power Platform).
  • Experience in managing credit, liquidity and working-capital risk and exposure.

Relocation Options:

  • Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.

International Considerations:

  • Expatriate assignments will not be considered.
  • Chevron regrets that it is unable to sponsor employment visas or consider individuals on time-limited visa status for this position.
