About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Corporate Counsel. This role will be based in 6750 Building, Makati City, Philippines.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

The Corporate Counsel for Chevron Philippines Inc. leads the management of legal issues and projects, ensuring regulatory compliance and advancing Chevron’s interests through strategic planning and stakeholder engagement. This role involves developing and implementing a comprehensive compliance framework, providing legal advice on business activities and transactions, managing risk and mitigation strategies, and overseeing outside counsel in line with company guidelines. It also requires cultivating relationships with government agencies, industry associations, and internal leaders to support operations, promote Chevron’s policies, and safeguard its objectives across legal, regulatory, and commercial matters.

  • Managing legal issues and projects including the development and implementation of strategies and stakeholder engagement plans to advance and protect the interests and objectives of Chevron

  • Developing and overseeing a pro-active and comprehensive regulatory compliance framework for Chevron to ensure compliance and advancement of Chevron interests

  • Engagement with relevant internal and external stakeholders to protect and advance Chevron interests, legal and regulatory advocacies, audits

  • Developing and maintaining linkages with various government agencies such as but not limited to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Energy, Department of Finance, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Tourism, Philippine Reclamation Agency, and Philippine Ports Authority to support CPI operations and to ensure its compliance with legislative and regulatory matters

  • Managing trade and industry relationships, including representations in industry associations to promote and advance Chevron’s interests and policies

  • Cultivating, strengthening and leveraging relationships with key Chevron leaders, including business and law leaders, to advance the legal team’s objectives, ensure strategic and alignment and support Chevron interests

  • Providing advice and legal support on a broad range of business activities and commercial matters and transactions of CPI including contract negotiations and review; risk identification legal exposure and developing mitigation strategies to advance and protect CPI and Chevron’s interests

  • Selecting, instructing and managing outside counsel in compliance with Chevron’s Outside Counsel Guidelines & processes.

  • Such other legal support work as may be assigned by the Chief Corporate Counsel

About You

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from an accredited law school.

  • Passed the Philippine Bar Examination and licensed to practice law.

  • Licensed to practice law in the Philippines

  • Minimum of 7 years of legal practice

  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence in high stakes environments

  • Strong experience in litigation, disputes, major transactions, and commercial deals

  • Experience working with government agencies and familiarity with regulatory processes

  • Proven ability to provide broad legal counsel across multiple practice areas

  • Solid business acumen and the ability to interpret complex legal and regulatory issues

  • Background in corporate legal work, law firm practice, and/or government legal roles

  • Experience in highly regulated industries; exposure to the energy sector is a plus

Core Competencies

  • Regulatory and Legislative Expertise: Strong knowledge of Philippine corporate and regulatory frameworks, including the Revised Corporation Code, SEC regulations, Anti-Money Laundering Act, labor, tax, and environmental laws. Familiarity with petroleum and gas-specific regulations is beneficial.

  • Government Relations & Stakeholder Engagement: Proven ability to develop and maintain linkages with government agencies and represent the organization in industry associations and policy forums.

  • Legal Advocacy & Negotiation: Strong advocacy and negotiation skills for engaging with regulators, legislative bodies, and external stakeholders.

  • Compliance Program Management: Experience in developing, overseeing, and continuously improving comprehensive regulatory compliance frameworks. Ability to manage audits, investigations, and compliance deadlines.

  • Leadership and Strategic Thinking: Demonstrable leadership skills that guides and inspires teams towards shared goals, demonstrates integrity and accountability, and makes strategic decisions under pressure.  

  • Strategic Relationship Building: Cultivates, strengthens, and leverages relationships with key company leaders and external stakeholders to advance legal team objectives and support organizational interests.

  • Business acumen: Strong business acumen with demonstrated ability to provide practical legal advise that aligns with business objectives, identifies and mitigates risks and supports commercial transactions.

  • Communication & Representation: Strong communication skills for internal training, external representation, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Integrity & Ethical Judgment: Maintains a high level of integrity and ethical judgment in all professional activities. Demonstrates accountability and sound decision-making under pressure. 

  • Teamwork and collaboration: Excels in team collaboration and actively engages with colleagues and stakeholders, sharing experiences and insights to achieve common goals.
