Chevron Venezuela is accepting applications for its Internship Program to fill the position of OE Intern – Process Safety & IIR Analytics.

This internship provides an opportunity to support Operational Excellence (OE) activities with a primary focus on Process Safety, Incident Investigation & Reporting (IIR), and data analysis, while gaining practical experience aligned with Chevron’s OE Management System and industry-recognized practices.

The position is intended for students interested in Process Safety fundamentals, data analysis, and continuous improvement, supporting initiatives that strengthen risk management, learning from incidents, and performance monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Support Operational Excellence (OE) and Process Safety initiatives in alignment with the OE Management System.
  • Develop and maintain Excel databases and dashboards/visualizations in Power BI for Process Safety and IIR performance indicators.
  • Prepare statistical reports, performance metrics, and trend analyses to support decision-making.
  • Assist in the classification, registration, tracking, and investigation of incidents in accordance with IIR requirements and internal OE processes.
  • Assist in the preparation of safety alerts and bulletins to communicate lessons learned from incident investigations.
  • Support the development, maintenance, and quality control of Process Safety and IIR KPIs, including data collection, validation, and trend analysis.
  • Support calculations and evaluations related to loss-of-containment scenarios, including gas and liquid releases from piping and vessels, as part of Process Safety assessments.
  • Support verification and tracking of system safeguards, including administrative, engineered, and procedural barriers, as part of Process Safety assurance activities.
  • Assist in Process Safety projects and initiatives, including follow-up of actions, metrics, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Learn and support the application of Process Safety KPIs aligned with API recommended practices and Chevron internal standards.
  • Prepare management-level presentations summarizing analyses, findings, and recommendations using PowerPoint.

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in the final semesters of an accredited university program in:
    • Chemical Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Petroleum Engineering
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Or a related technical discipline
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Working knowledge of Power BI for KPI dashboards and data visualization.
  • Ability to prepare statistical reports and performance indicators.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering fundamentals, including process concepts and fluid behavior.
  • Ability to read and interpret Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint for executive-level presentations.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate technical information clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong interest in Process Safety Management (PSM) and Incident Investigation & Reporting (IIR).
  • Basic knowledge of process simulation tools (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, or similar).
  • Experience with data analysis, trend evaluation, or performance monitoring.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Forms and Power Apps.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Internship Details

  • Working Hours: 20 or 40 hours per week, with flexibility to accommodate academic commitments.
  • Internship Duration: 6 months, with the possibility of a 6-month extension.
  • Location: Maracaibo, Venezuela.
