Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Shift Lead Analyst at Pasadena, TX, through June 14th, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. (Central Time)

The Laboratory Shift Lead Analyst is responsible for the analytical testing of process samples, finished products, and raw materials.  The Laboratory Shift Lead Analyst must be competent in the use of GCs, titrators, environmental testing instrumentation, XRFs, and IR Spectrometers.  The Laboratory Shift Lead Analyst is also responsible for obtaining representative tank samples and for running Octane testing on gasoline and gasoline components.  The Laboratory Shift Lead Analyst must also know how to use the Laboratory information system (CBLISS) and be comfortable relaying information to the appropriate operating unit and the Refinery Shift Leaders (RSLs) or Process Engineers (PEs).  This person must be knowledgeable inLaboratory SOPs, laboratory safety guidelines, and refinery safety rules.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform analytical and physical analyses on refinery unit streams and finished products.

  • Enter data from analysis results into a LIMS database.

  • Assist in refinery lab instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.

  • Perform scheduled quality control analyses on lab instruments and analyzers.

  • Assist in coordinating and carrying out R&D projects for Refinery Operations.

  • Assist in the purchasing of lab equipment/instrument consumables, and supplies.

  • Consult with Technical, Operations, Maintenance, and various Chevron Business Units to select and design appropriate testing for plant optimization and troubleshooting. 

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including OPEX reduction, laboratory optimization, and engineering projects.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must have a TWIC card or the ability to obtain a TWIC card.

  • 5 years of related workexperience in a petroleum lab testing environment.

  • Must have a minimum of a High School Diploma.

  • Have a valid Driver’s License

  • Good written and oral communication skills.

  • Candidate must be willing to work rotating shifts (DuPont), including weekends, holidays, and overtime.

  • Ability to communicate chemistry/technical information to audiences of various technical backgrounds and levels of management.

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. 

  • Demonstrated teamwork, communication, planning/organizing, and influential leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or another science-related field is preferred.

  • Prior experience working in a 24/7 Operations laboratory.

  • Strong mechanical inclination and ability to use basic tools to maintain lab equipment.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Open Lab, Separations Systems & VUV Vision

  • Experience with Cbliss LIMS & QC Plus applications.  

  • Knowledge of refinery product test methods (e.g. ASTM methods for gasoline blend stocks, distillates including kerosene jet and diesel, and light hydrocarbon streams such as propane and butane)

  • Demonstrated ability to consult on analytical instrumentation and test methods, including method development and equipment/instrumentation repair.

  • Knowledge and understanding of refinery unit operation and product streams. 

Relocation:

Relocation will not be considered.

International assignments won't be considered.
